# Roping and Hogtying

#### Use Sparingly & With Intent

Lassos **should not be used as a first resort** in roleplay. Hogtying **immediately ends another player’s ability to react**, so it should only be used **when appropriate and justified in the scene**. Be aware that excessive or premature use of lassos can **kill the progression of good roleplay**.

#### Breaking Out of Ropes

**Do not break ropes or hogties** if:

* Your captor is present and has a **weapon drawn** or is clearly **posing a threat**
* You are being **carried** or **stowed on a horse**
* Your character **would not realistically be able to escape**

Escaping should always be based on **realistic timing and situational awareness**—not just game mechanics.

#### Law Enforcement Use

Law enforcement **may use lassos** as a non-lethal method to apprehend suspects.

If you are caught via lasso by a lawman:

* You may **attempt to escape once**.
* If you are apprehended a **second time**, you must **submit to the arrest** and follow the scene through.
* The above rules (guns drawn, being carried, stowed) **still apply** during law-related roleplay.
