# Law and Order

For Lawmen

**Law Must Be Roleplayed**

All arrests, searches, and confrontations must be **properly roleplayed**—this includes reading charges, questioning suspects, and offering surrender.Do not use your position to **force outcomes** or powerplay situations. Allow room for negotiation and realistic escape attempts. Law enforcement must RP within realistic limits—no supercop behavior.

**Lawmen Are Not Invincible**

You are not a superhero. You can be outnumbered, outgunned, and outplayed. If the odds are against you, **retreat or call for backup**. You are **expected to fear for your life**—especially when outnumbered or ambushed.

**Arrest Over Execution**

Dead criminals don’t tell stories. **Killing should be a last resort**—arrest, wound, or capture when possible. You may only use lethal force if: You’re being actively shot at or you’re in an active and fair gunfight situation.

**No "Revenge Policing"**

You cannot harass or target someone OOC or IC just because they bested you in a past encounter.Keep your RP professional—even if your character has a grudge, it must be acted on **realistically**, not emotionally.\
\
**Portal Use Rules**

**No Portal Jumping to Gain Advantage**\
You may not use portals to cut off escaping criminals, flank ambushes, or arrive in a position that gives you an unfair tactical advantage. If you couldn’t have reasonably gotten there on horseback or wagon in time, you shouldn’t portal there mid-incident.

**Use Portals for Patrol Shifts Only**\
Lawmen may travel by portal at the *start* or *end* of their patrol, or when responding to a call for service—not in the middle of an active chase, investigation, or confrontation.

**Investigations Must Be Earned**\
Portaling to check “suspicious areas,” hotspots, or hideouts with no lead is not allowed. You must arrive through normal means unless your RP justification supports the use.<br>

For Criminals

**Plan with Purpose**

Crime must have **clear intent and RP motivation**—no random ambushes or shootouts with lawmen “just because.” Think like an outlaw, not a deathmatch player. **Outsmart, don’t outgun** every time.

**Give Lawmen a Chance to RP**

Don’t shoot the second you see a badge. Give **verbal warnings or demands**, or create opportunities for dialogue, intimidation, or surrender scenarios. Sudden ambushes with no RP setup may be considered **Poor RP or RDM**.

**Escape with Style**

Running from the law is encouraged—but do it **with RP**, not just exploiting game mechanics or speed-escaping with no emotes. You must remain in the area of a crime for a minimum of TEN minutes following the crime. You must give lawmen the chance of pursuit.&#x20;

**Criminal Actions Have Consequences**

If you get caught, accept the outcome and continue the story. **Jail time, fines, or execution** can lead to more RP. Don’t always try to “win” or avoid capture—sometimes getting caught is the best move for your character arc.\
\
**Portal Use Rules**\
\
**No Portal Evading**\
Criminals may not use portals to escape lawmen, skip active pursuits, or disappear mid-crime. Once law is engaged, portals are off-limits until the scene concludes and a realistic cooldown has passed.

**No Teleporting to Crimes**\
You may not portal directly into robberies, bounties, ambushes, or ongoing fights to join in. All criminal involvement must arrive through realistic travel or planned setups.

**Portals Cannot Be Used to Hide Loot or Evidence**\
You cannot grab stolen goods, hides, contraband, or bodies and immediately portal away. If you want to vanish with loot, you must earn that escape through normal movement and RP.

**Portals Cannot Be Used to Hide Loot or Evidence**

**Targeting lawmen outside of justified RP scenarios is prohibited.**

#### Mutual Respect in Conflict

**Conflict between law and crime should feel organic**, not forced or repetitive. Both sides must leave space for **development, negotiation, or even shaky alliances**. Staff may step in if either side is seen **abusing mechanics, ignoring fear RP**, or **refusing to lose** when it makes sense.
